Vladivostok to Be Turned into Second St.-Petersburg

Safari park, down town and luxurious hotels may appear in our city in the nearest time

VLADIVOSTOK, September 25, vladivostoktimes.com The scientists developed a strategy of taking Vladivostok to the new level. More and more people leave Vladivostok recently. Earlier Primorians escaped to Moscow, now they prefer St.-Petersburg. Experts say these cities are much richer and more attractive then the capital of Primorye. But Vladivostok has a great potential – our city may become the second St.-Petersburg, “Komsomolskaya Pravda” newspaper reports.

“If you compare apartments with repair made for a thousand and 100 thousand rubles, it becomes clear that a successful man lives in the second apartment. The same difference is between Vladivostok and St.-Petersburg,” Yuri AVDEYEV, the head of Asia-Pacific Migration Process Institute, gave a vivid example, “In other words, there is a number of people in Primorye that are ready to start business here, to develop the region. But unfortunately they can’t implement their ideas here. That is why it’s necessary to expand the potential of Vladivostok within following 11 years to St.-Petersburg’s level. This is the main economic strategic aim.”

APEC-2012 summit will be of great help in achieving this purpose. But 283bln Rubles, devoted to summit, won’t be enough to take the city to the new level. It’s necessary to add about 900bln Rubles.

“These funds may be earned, developing the city,” Yuri AVDEYEV says, “We should invest money in road construction, to education and health care. Tourism is extremely important because more than 300mln people live within a radius of 1000 kilometers from Vladivostok! It is a gigantic consumer market, and its abilities can be used for the development of Vladivostok. For example, not more than 60mln people live within the same distance from St.-Petersburg.”
