VLADIVOSTOK, January 18, vladivostoktimes.com Sergey DARKIN, the Governor of the Primorsky Territory had a ceremonial meeting with Comrade SIM Guk Ryon, the Consulate General of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in Nakhodka; the press service of the Primorsky Territory Administration reports. Comrade LEE Sok Song, the Consulate of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in Nakhodka, and Oleg SHCHEKA, the Director of the Primorsky Territory Department of International Relations and Tourism, also attended the meeting. Comrade SIM Guk Ryon congratulated Sergey DARKIN on the appointment to the post of the Primorsky Territory Governor. He mentioned that the bilateral relations between Russia and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are developing according to the Russian-Korean Declaration that was signed by the leaders of the Russian Federation and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea 10 years ago, on July 19, 2000. Comrade SIM Guk Ryon also noted that friendly relations between RF and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea are increasing and there are new opportunities for such expansion. Sergey DARKIN also pointed out that it is necessary to develop economic and cultural ties between Primorye and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the parties have gained the experience in mutually beneficial relations. In 2003 the joint working group of the Primorsky Territory Administration and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea International Trade Committee was formed. The Primorsky Territory is working closely with the Democratic People's Republic of Korea in the field of shipbuilding. In early 2009 a cargo-and-passenger ferry “Aleksey Shimanskiy,” was launched at the shipbuilding yard in Chhondjin and transferred to the Russian ship-owner; currently, it is carrying cargo for building projects of the APEC Summit in 2012 in Vladivostok. Besides, the Korean shipbuilding yard is successfully executing an order for making of four 1000-ton self-propelled barges. The parties are actively exchanging experience in the field of fish industry. Besides, they cooperate in the rebuilding of the north section of the Korean railway from Tumangan Station to the port Rajin. “It should be noted that there are great prospects in developing and strengthening of the trade, economic and culture mutually advantageous relations between the Primorsky Territory and the Democratic People's Republic of Korea,” Sergey DARKIN says in conclusion.
