VLADIVOSTOK, February 2, vladivostoktimes.com The new skating rink with artificial ice opened in Chuguevka, Primorsky Territory, on January 29. It was built in the remote village with the South Korea engineers’ assistance. They assure that the sports center is both modern and energy-conserving. Sergey DARKIN, the Governor of the Primorsky Territory, attended the solemn opening of the ice rink, the long-expected event for all residents of Chuguevka.
“I am pleased that the fifth in Primorye and the best ice rink is opened in this remote village that used to be famous for nothing but taiga,” Sergey DARKIN said. “Chuguevka deserves having this sports center. We intend to set up the branch of the Children’s Sport School here and the kids from north districts of Primorye will have a chance to participate in the sports,” the Governor summed up.
The Governor also noted that he had no doubts about the ice condition but this time he did not skate himself. He just promised to play hockey in this rink together with Vyacheslav FETISOV as soon as he pays visit to Chuguevka.
Finally the Primorsky Territory Governor awarded the local team “Vostok” (East) with the Primorye Hockey Championship Cup of 2008-2009 season.
“On my way to Chuguevka I had time to attend the opening ceremony of gym in Chernyshovka School, in the Anuchino District. Two weeks ago an up-to-date sports center was put into service in Artem. Last year we open a skating rink in Bolshoy Kamen and a swimming pool in Partizansk,” Sergey DARKIN reported.
“It is difficult to say what the entrance fee will be as the procedure of putting the rink into operation is not still completed,” Andrei OLEINIK, the “Olympus” Director says. “It has not been decided yet who will be the owner of the skating rink. The Chuguevka District Administration is the customer of this project and it was financed at the expense of the local budget. Besides, some funds were allocated to the project from the Territory budget in the framework of the purpose program “Development of Physical Culture and Sport in the Primorsky Territory in 2007-2010,” he explained. “I can be absolutely sure that our kids will play hockey here and we also tend to arrange the figure skating group. As for the ice hockey, it has become quite popular and we have good coaches and teams; unfortunately, we did not develop the figure skating but now we have such opportunity,” Andrei OLEINIK assured. The artificial ice of the new skating rink was tried out immediately after the opening ceremony. The first hockey match between “Vostok” from Chuguevka and “Energy” from Artem was held. The score favored the hosts: eight goals to four. Other articles in this section
